Skype Fix

While Skype continues to be inconsistent in its quality of voice transmission, it is a low-cost method of International calls to phones.

For those in North America, Google Voice is demonstrating a higher quality voice transmission. It uses the Internet to connect Your landline or mobile phone to other phones toll free throughout United States and Canada.

There is currently no monthly plan for International Calling. These calls are made with a low per-minute charge per call. International callers can call United States and Canada for 1¢ per minute.

Recent versions of Skype make it impossible to use the Dialer Keypad to send signals to mute and un-mute the line on Conference Bridges, or 3-way others onto the call. Following is the Fix:

version of the product which actually worked.

Steps to return to a working version of Skype, even if
You are new to the product or just got a new computer
(Don’t worry, You will not lose all Your contacts -
they will be there when You log-in with Your Skype ID
and password):

1. Copy and paste this link into your browser such as
Internet Explorer:
http://www.filehippo.com/download_skype/7553/ .

To download the older version of Skype, version
4.2.0.166 Click on the down arrow in the upper right
where it says "Download this version, 21.92 MB".
So this may take a while.

2. Un-install (Remove) your current version of Skype.
Click on Start, Control Panel, Programs... . Look
down the menu in alphabetical order for Skype and
un-install (remove).

3. Maybe the download has finished by now. When it
does, double click on the downloaded file to install
it.
